How A 3rd Person Point of view Can Save Your Business And Your Sanity

I read an incredible magazine article yesterday which was all to do with the way in which the third person perspective can be employed to help you get on better with yourself, your life and your business.

The article was partially inspired by Gretchen Rubin of the 'Happiness Project'. She more than deserves a mention. Her contribution to the column I read helped me specifically and also inspired this short piece.

So how does a 3rd person perspective help in business?

Consider this example for a second.

You are exhausted, fed-up and sick to the back teeth with life. What do you need to do to get yourself out of the state you are in?

Sleep?

A drink?

To hide?

Perhaps doing all three things would put the world to rights but the again maybe not.

It may be the thoughts in your head are too loud and lumpy and the answer too unclear. Who is able to say what you must do?Perhaps you just need the day to end.

When you are tried, angry, uninspired, procrastinating or simply bored by doing what you need to do it is hard to know what's best for you.

That is where the third person perspective comes in.

Ask; 'What's the best solution for me in this circumstance?' but frame the question from outside yourself.

When you ask the question imagine that you are sat across the room looking at yourself being all sad and miserable.

The answer's probably quite a lot clearer because when you frame the question from outside yourself you become much fairer, more objective and compassionate.

Basically this is a technique to bypass all the rubbish in your head that is keeping you down. And for me at least, it seems to work.

Now, apply this to your business.

If you find yourself needing to employ the services of an a marketing agency but you've had bad experiences during the past, you might be a bit doubtful about whether its worthwhile and talk yourself out of the idea.

Often this is self-defeating and also not a good way to engender incremental growth in your business.

Regardless of what the obstacle of the moment is, step back and take a look at the situation from outside yourself looking in.

Do this and you may start to do right by yourself and your business.

It's a good way to reduce stress.

Hope it works for you.
